When Shirley Temple presented Walt with his special Oscars in 1938, she mentioned “Snow White and the seven dwarves, Ferdinand, and all the others.”
Shirley wasn’t referring to the Prince, she was referring to “Ferdinand the Bull”, a Disney short that came out the same year and won the Academy Award for Best Short Subject at the same Oscar.
I’ve asked Dave Smith (founder of the Walt Disney Archives), who is considered by the Walt Disney Company to be the final authority on matters of Disney history. He’s told me that he was never ever given a name by any of the crew on Snow White.
